Perfumes by Serge Lutens

The house

Serge Lutens began as a creative director and photographer for Shiseido before establishing his own fragrance label. The first fragrances were produced in collaboration with Shiseido starting in 1992 in Paris (France), with Christopher Sheldrake as the primary perfumer. The house occupies a distinct position in niche perfumery for its conceptual depth, unusual material choices and a strong author identity built around Lutens himself.

The catalog is divided between the Palais Royal exclusives, sold only at the Paris boutique, and the wider international distribution line. Compositions frequently use raw, polarizing materials: heavy iris, dense musks, dark tobacco, animalic musks. Maurice Roucel also contributed Iris Silver Mist (1994) to the catalog, one of the most cited iris fragrances in niche perfumery discussion.

On Osmetheca, Serge Lutens is represented by five fragrances: Ambre Sultan (1993), Iris Silver Mist (1994), Tubéreuse Criminelle (1999), Chergui (2001) and Datura Noir (2001), covering the key directions of the house across oriental, iris, animalic and green amber constructions.
