The house

Amouage was founded in 1983 in Muscat (Oman) at the initiative of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who sought to create a luxury perfume house that would embody Omani artisanal heritage and the richness of Arabian raw materials. The founding brief was ambitious: produce the world's most expensive perfume. The first release, Amouage Gold, was presented in a silver and gold flacon designed by Asprey of London (United Kingdom), with the juice composed by Guy Robert.

The house expanded its creative output during the 1990s and accelerated significantly from the mid-2000s under the creative direction of Christopher Chong, who oversaw the Library Collection and the main collection through the 2010s. Compositions were assigned to established European perfumers working in close collaboration with the Muscat production team, which maintained in-house distillation of Omani frankincense and rose.

On Osmetheca, Amouage is represented by two fragrances: Lyric Woman (2008), signed by Daniel Maurel, a floral oriental rose-spice composition; and Interlude Man (2012), signed by Pierre Negrin, a smoky oriental that drew critical attention for its unusual accord structure built around opoponax and birch tar.
